Hidden Faces of ALS

Images from a day in the life can change the mental picture. When most people think of ALS, they picture old men like Lou Gehrig or Stephen Hawking, or the ice-bucket challenge. But nearly 1 in 10 diagnosed are under 35 – and women around 45% of all cases.

Her ALS Story is an advocacy and support group for young women whose lives were interrupted while building careers, raising families, and pursuing their passions. Their annual retreat on Cape Cod shows what’s possible when advocacy and adaptive gear support a sense of resilience and sisterhood. Capturing this story was deeply personal, as ALS has touched our own studio family. It was an incredible experience to spend time chronicling the joy and connection between these women and their caregivers as they savor the last days of summer.
